President's Message – December 2020​

Dear IUA Members,

We continue to renew the structure of the IUA and enlarge its umbrella including other new associate societies (African Federation of Angiology and Vascular Surgery, Bangladesh Vascular Society, Canadian Society of Phlebology, Egyptian Venous Forum, European Society for Vascular Medicine,  Mexican Society of Angiology, Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, Myanmar Society of Interventional Cardiology, Pan-American Society of Phlebology and Lymphology, Romanian Society of Angiology and Vascular Surgery, Romanian Society of Phlebology, Russian Phlebological Association, Serbian Society of Cardiovascular Surgery, Slovenian Society for Vascular Diseases, Western Vascular Institute).

At present, we have 59 associate societies of the IUA and others will enter in the following months.

To motivate the current as well as the new associate societies (AS), the Executive Committee of the IUA has decided to offer the following advantages: 
  • Advertising events organized by the AS on the IUA website (“Events” section and homepage).
  • Advertising events organized by the AS in the IUA newsletters sent to all IUA members (4 per year).
  • Publication of reports of the AS activities on the IUA website (“News” section) and in the IUA newsletter.
  • One on-line subscription to the International Angiology journal.
  • Authorized use of the IUA logo at the events organized by the AS.
  • IUA auspices for the events organized by the AS.
  • Priority for publication of accepted papers in the International Angiology and Vascular Investigation and Therapy.
  • Participation in the scientific program of the IUA world and chapter congresses (dedicated sessions, workshops, or lectures).
  • Reduced registration fees to IUA world and chapter congresses for the members of the AS.
  • Collaboration on the IUA consensus documents and guidelines.
  • Organization of international (multicentric) research projects under the auspices of the IUA.
  • The IUA will follow activities of national and international AS and will organize annual meetings of the representatives of the associate societies (“parliament” of the AS).
  • The IUA will check the state of vascular medicine and vascular surgery in associate societies and certify vascular centers, which fulfill the criteria. In countries with marginal vascular activities, it will stimulate the organization of vascular centers.
Obligations of the associate societies:
  • Payment of the annual fee of 200 EUR or lower according to different categories following the criteria reported below.*
  • Advertising of the IUA events among the members of the AS.
  • Motivating members of the AS to become members of the IUA.
  • Informing the IUA about the activities organized by the AS, aiming to avoid overlapping of major vascular events.
*category A – standard fee set by the IUA Executive Board (200 EUR); category B – reduced fee for AS from the developing countries, at least 50% of the standard fee (100 EUR); category C – waived fee for AS from countries in major crises or with difficult socio-economic environment (0 EUR). The payment is due annually by January 31.

I am happy to inform you that the 29th (virtual) IUA World Congress 2020 will be available free of charge to the individual financial members until the end of March 2021.

The next (30th) IUA World Congress will be held in Porto Alegre, Brazil, from September 22 to 24, 2022. The congress will be organized by Professor Pedro Pablo Komlos. The 31st IUA World Congress will be organized by Professor Armando Mansilha in Porto, Portugal, in 2024.

8th IUA Course for Young Vascular Specialists (July 2021, Prague, if the epidemiologic situation improves significantly)
North Africa & Middle East Chapter Congress (September 2021, venue TBC)
Chinese Chapter Congress (October 2021, Beijing)
EuroChap Congress (autumn 2021, Porto)
Multinational Chapter Congress (end of 2021, Slovenia) 
Pan-American Congress/Latin American Chapter Congress (February 2022, Cuba)

I invite all of you to send to the IUA Secretariat the list of events organized by your societies to put them on the IUA website.

Last but not least, I remind all the IUA members to visit the IUA website and renew their membership for the next year. Your contribution to the Union is very important.
